Commencement of VBBS Training in Dh. Vaanee Campus

The Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) Training, organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), officially commenced on 23 August 2026 at the Dh. Vaanee Campus.

The 10-day training programme brings together a total of 19 participants and is designed to strengthen their knowledge, operational capabilities, and practical skills in conducting safe, effective, and professional Visit, Board, Search and Seizure operations.

Throughout the training, participants will engage in a comprehensive combination of theoretical and practical sessions covering key aspects of maritime law enforcement operations. The programme will focus on vessel approach and assessment, safe boarding procedures, systematic search techniques, identification and handling of relevant items and evidence, seizure procedures, operational safety, team coordination, and effective decision-making during maritime operations.

The training will also provide participants with an opportunity to develop a stronger understanding of international standards, operational procedures, legal considerations, and best practices relevant to VBSS operations. Practical exercises will further enable participants to apply the knowledge gained in realistic operational scenarios and enhance their confidence and readiness in carrying out maritime interdiction activities.

The commencement of this training represents an important step towards enhancing operational preparedness, strengthening professional capacity, and promoting effective maritime law enforcement. The knowledge and practical experience gained through the programme are expected to contribute to improved coordination and effectiveness in addressing maritime-related crimes and other security challenges.
